The psycho-geriatric unit, offers a specialised programme to assist geriatric patients suffering from disorders of old age, focusing on cognitive impairment like memory loss or dementia.
The psycho-geriatric unit has its own dedicated ward, where patients are treated by super-specialist psychiatrists in the fields of geriatric psychiatry and neuro psychiatry and cared for by registered nurses. The unit offers inpatient and outpatient care, providing transport between patients’ home and the hospital where necessary.
Patients are also treated by specially trained psychologists, occupational therapists, with the aim of providing them with the skills to help them cope in everyday life despite their illness. Through group therapy, patients are also given the opportunity to socialise with peers, thereby reducing feelings of loneliness and isolation.
