TAG - The Akeso Graduates Group

The Akeso post-discharge outpatient support programme is called TAG - The Akeso Graduates Group. It is not only open to patients from Akeso, but also to their families and members of the community who wish to participate.

The programme builds on the dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT) skills learnt in the hospital, and entrenches these in everyday life. For those not familiar with the language of DBT, the skills are introduced in an easy to understand way. Other therapeutic models are incorporated in an integrated and appropriate way.

Groups are geared towards all general and dual diagnosis individuals. In some Akeso facilities where numbers are small, the groups are combined and in others, the groups are run separately. The sessions run after hours or over weekends to accommodate people who work during the week.

Former patients may equally be referred to other community support groups according to their preference.
The COPE co-ordinator in the facility can assist patients in making bookings to attend TAG groups. A doctor referral is not required.

Self-assessment tools

The self-assessment tools are simple yes/no questions that can help you understand if you, or a loved one, may need assistance with what you're experiencing. There are five self-assessment tools to choose from.
