A message from our Managing Director

If you're reading this, then it's probable that you, or someone you care for, is experiencing psychiatric or psychological 'dis-ease', and you are contemplating admission to hospital for specialised treatment and care. We are pleased you are considering one of our Akeso psychiatric hospitals as the place to change the direction of your life for the better.

Psychiatric and psychological disorders have three primary causes and require a three-pronged treatment approach – biological, psychological and social. At Akeso, we firmly believe that our holistic and integrated approach to treatment achieves the best outcomes for our patients. By 'integrated' we mean that in our hospitals, the psychiatrists, medical doctors, nurses, psychologists, occupational therapists, social workers, pharmacists and other healthcare professionals all work together in multi-disciplinary teams, along with you and your family, to make sure that you receive the best possible care to facilitate your recovery and set your life on a positive path for the long term.

Our group programmes are designed in line with best international and local practice, and we have come to learn that the more you and your family participate in the treatment process, the better the outcome for all of you.

At Akeso, we work closely with you to determine the course of treatment that will best suit your condition and unique circumstances. Our aim is that our treatment will lead to you getting well with the minimum inconvenience and to enjoy "a life that feels worth living again" after your discharge. Thus, we'll do whatever we can to ensure that your inpatient experience will not only provide you with a safe and caring environment but, also, that your in-hospital stay will open the way for you and your family to a fresh start – a new beginning.

So, while we will first focus on giving you and your family relief from the sometimes devastating symptoms of your disorder, we will be also work closely with you while you are in our care, to find creative and sustainable ways of equipping you to get and stay healthy.

For us, health is defined as the relationship you have with yourself (your mind, body and spirit), your potential to love and be loved in return, and your capacity to find meaning in your daily life – be it work, parenting, caring for others or study.

At Akeso, we trust we'll introduce you to many pathways to improved and sustained health. These pathways will generally include medication, individual, group and family therapies, and developing new skills. While we'll be there to help you find new direction, we can only do it with you!
